Saporiti Confidential Sofa, 1970s
We do wonder... Alberto Rosselli got to be a mere 55 years old. What would have been there after 1976, if he had just had more time? We're never going to know.
And we will in no way let this curious regret (or regretful curiosity) diminish our joy about the things this central figure of post-war Italian design did create. Like this (one of a few) reasons to love the seventies: the Confidential sofa.
Launched in 1972 by Saporiti Italia, who on their website still refer to it as one of the most important designs in the company's history: "(...) it is one of the first modular systems ever made, engineered to be entirely produced by polyurethane injected foam. Metal frame in steel. Upholstered seats in fabric or leather."
The conjunction of material and form makes it a likewise luxurious and super cool piece: premium cognac-colored leather, inviting and soft, biomorphic shapes perfectly fitting into each other, heavy and stable, yet apparently floating above the ground. Wow.
Very good and stable vintage condition with slight traces of usage. It won't catch your eye lying on the base, but is to be mentioned: the leather on the down side of the loose seat cushions showed some rather strong abrasion. It was concealed with perfectly matching leather tint by an expert (see pictures).
Measures: width 162cm, depth 85cm, height 60cm, seat height 35cm.
A matching two-seat couch is available separately.
