Omnia Wall Unit, 1960s
The Omnia System.
German furniture manufacturer Hilker launched it in the 1960s, in competition to the Swedish classic, the String shelf.
The idea is similar: a modular system consisting of metal ladders of various lengths, combined with shelves and boxes to their customers' needs. What is different are the height-adjustable feet for more carrying capacity as compared to a fully wall-mounted unit, slightly stronger rods sparing lateral braces, which on the other hand required a slightly different kind of mounting. The result was a super filigree and airy unit with infinite storage solutions.
This unit consists of three ladders, two drawer containers at the bottom, three shelves and two lockable containers on top.
Very good vintage condition with some visible traces of usage: some surfaces are unevenly bleached.
Measures: width 137cm, depth 55/ 26cm, height 215cm.
